Effects of Scorzonera cinerea on Immune System and Hematological Parameters in Short-Term Hyperglycemia

Objective: Medicinal herbs offer natural remedies for various ailments because of their comprehensive effects. Scorzonera cinerea L. (Sc) is an edible wild plant and used in traditional medicine against diseases. The purpose this study was to investigate the immune system effects S. radical leaf extract diabetic rats.
 Methods: 5 groups were formed — Control, Diabetic, Sc-Dried, Sc-Frozen, Acarbose. Adenosine deaminase (ADA), xanthine oxidase (XO), myeloperoxidase (MPO) activities liver kidney tissues analyzed. Hematological parameters also evaluated.
 Results: ADA, XO, MPO both significantly increased conditions. However, Sc treatments decreased activities. There no significant change red blood cell (RBC) parameters. Although platelet (PLT) count MPV raised group, these reduced with Sc-Dried Sc-Frozen treatment. While lymphocyte (LYM%) defense cells neutrophil (NEU%), monocyte (MO%), eosinophil (EOS%) elevated. a decrease observed NEU% EOS% treatment.
 Conclusion: treatment can exert potential immunoregulatory effect diabetes. Thus, be considered as adjuvant augment on
